Bhairav Gangopadhyay

Bhairav Gangopadhyay was born in ‘Mool’ village in East Burdwan district of present day West Bengal, British India. He studied till eighth standard in Moolgram. However, his love and devotion to the yatra held in the villages of Bengal from his teenage years attracted him to the yatra industry.

The first Yatrapala composed by him “Nachmahal” staged ‘Satyambar Opera’. He won the respect of the audience in the first written Yatrapala. After that he wrote many journeys one by one. The number of Yatrapalas written by him is about three hundred.

Apart from composing Palaa, he also experimented in directing. In 1989, he formed his own group “Bhairav Opera” and produced it. He was a empathetic person. The words of the poor common people, injustice, injustice and torture have emerged in his writings. Bhairav Gangopadhyay was as much an actor, director and producer as he was a lyricist and composer.
