About Charak Puja

Charak Puja is a Hindu festival that is primarily celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, and Orissa. It is also known as “Nil Puja” or “Chaitra Sankranti” and is celebrated on the last day of the Bengali month of Chaitra, which falls in the month of April.

Charak Puja is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of a wooden pole known as the “Charak.” The pole is decorated with flowers and leaves and is hoisted vertically with the help of ropes. The pole can reach up to 40 feet in height and is often rotated by a group of men, who hold onto the ropes and spin the pole around.

The Charak Puja ceremony also involves various other rituals, including the offering of flowers, sweets, and other offerings to Lord Shiva. Devotees also take part in processions, dance performances, and other cultural activities during the festival.

The spinning of the Charak pole is considered to be a symbol of the cycle of creation and destruction in the universe. It is also believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the community.

Charak Puja is a popular festival in the eastern region of India, and it attracts a large number of devotees and tourists every year. The festival is known for its colorful and lively celebrations, which involve music, dance, and cultural performances.
