About Yogiraj Sri Shyamacharan Lahiri
Yogiraj Sri Shyamacharan Lahiri, also known as Lahiri Mahasaya, was a yogi and disciple of the great yogi Mahavatar Babaji. He was born on September 30, 1828, in the village of Ghurni, in Bengal, India.
Lahiri Mahasaya is best known for popularizing Kriya Yoga, a powerful spiritual practice that involves a series of breathing techniques and meditations. He was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Mahavatar Babaji and subsequently taught it to many students, including his most famous disciple, Paramahansa Yogananda, who brought the teachings to the West.
Lahiri Mahasaya also served as a government accountant and lived a simple, humble life, yet he was highly respected by many for his spiritual insight and wisdom. He passed away on September 26, 1895, but his teachings and legacy continue to inspire many people around the world.
