Biography of Bagha Jatin

Bagha Jatin, also known as Jatindranath Mukherjee, was a revolutionary leader who fought against British colonial rule in India. He was born on December 7, 1879, in Kushtia, Bengal Presidency (now in Bangladesh).

Jatin was a brilliant student who was well-versed in English and Bengali literature. He went to England in 1905 to pursue higher studies in civil engineering but returned to India after a year due to ill-health. Upon his return, he joined the Indian National Congress and began working towards India’s independence.

In 1910, Jatin founded the Jugantar party, a revolutionary organization that aimed to overthrow British rule in India. He and his followers carried out a number of daring attacks on British officials and establishments, including the famous raid on the Chittagong Armoury in 1930.

Jatin was known for his exceptional leadership qualities and his ability to inspire his followers. He was also an expert in guerrilla warfare and was trained in the use of firearms and explosives.

Jatin’s life was cut short when he was killed in a gunfight with British police in Balasore, Odisha, on September 10, 1915. He was only 35 years old at the time of his death.

Today, Bagha Jatin is remembered as one of the most iconic figures of the Indian independence movement. His fearless spirit and dedication to the cause of India’s freedom continue to inspire generations of Indians to this day.
